i think the game software publishers have finally figured out that people actually buy and play games all year instead of just over xmas... and even more shocking, i think someone in the industry finally discovered an important fact about summers in america:

Whats this you say? American children spend two to three months at home every summer?? With no school to keep them away from gaming goodness?!? holyfuckinshit! I just got a great idea... we should actually sell games during this strange period of "summer vacation" and rake in the cash!
this is a good thing for gamers like myself... but its also a bad thing... because i am being absolutely bombarded with quality gaming and dont have the time to enjoy it properly... it used to be that maybe one or two decent games would be released right around may, then nothing but low-rent crap the rest of the year until the middle of november... that is certainly not the case this year... on top of the great new releases, i finally grabbed a gamecube so ive got that to contend with as well...

in the last few months ive bought:

  • Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2

  • Eternal Darkness

  • CustomRobo

  • Lost Kingdom 2

  • Super Mario Sunshine

  • Front Mission 4

  • Full Spectrum Warrior

  • Chronicles of Riddick (a much better game than the movie)

  • UT2004

  • Psi-Ops

  • Thief 3

  • Warlords Battlecry 3

  • Samurai Warriors

these are ALL high-quality games, and all are begging for my attention... there just isnt enough time in the day to play them... oh but it gets even worse! it would be fine if this were just some weird fluke of quality gaming at this time of the year, and i could look forward to having the next 5 months to give each game the time it deserves before the xmas release rush... but noooo... over the next two months im also faced with:

  • Ground Control 2

  • Silent Storm: Sentinels

  • Driver 3

  • Bujingai

  • Way of the Samurai 2

  • Sudeki

  • Madden

  • Kingdom Under Fire

  • Armored Core: Nexus

  • Star Ocean: TtEoT

  • Phantom Brave

  • Call of Cthulhu

  • Origin of the Species

  • Half-Life 2 (HA! like thats gonna happen)

sigh im going to be forced to pick and choose, and invariably some of the stuff will be impossible to find when i finally do get around to buying the stuff i passed up the first time around...

but i guess the good news is, we may be looking at a new period of creativity in the gaming industry... just the next few months will see more quality released than we saw in all of the last year, or even the year before...
