ive mentioned titan quest gold before in other posts... and i say again, if you dont already own it, it is absolutely criminal to NOT get it at this price. seriously, just go buy it already. you can thank me later.

Steam... my old nemesis. I decide to check out the demo to see if this is something I would play. After Steam finished DLing the demo, I fire it up... and my PC reboots. Weird, huh? So I check my other games, HL2, WoW, JA2, Silent Storm, Thief-Deadly Shadows. All of them start up with no problem. I try the demo, again, and get another reboot.

Not impressed, so far, but I would still like to try the game. Did you have any issues with the demo?

I decided to get the game. Steamed TQ and IT. The intros will play, then as soon as the menu screen pops, I get a reboot. So I go to the forums. Looks like this is a known issue, except the developers never addressed it. I am going to try the game on an old Win2k box and see if I get the same thing.

Seems to work fine on the Win2k box. I guess it doesn't like something on the XP box. So far it looks like Diablo 2 with better graphics. Sound is good, too.

weird with the reboots, i played it a TON on my xp box before i upgraded and never had that problem... i wonder if its related to a particular component like the sound card or video card... unfortunately, the devs went tits up shortly after the expansion was released so a lot didnt get fixed... there IS a fan-patch floating around out there though that fixes a whole bunch of problems with the game (though probably not things like the reboots)... i use it and recommend it...

titan quest is, in many ways, superior to diablo 2. there are a lot of little innovations in there that, while subtle in many cases, dramatically improve the gameplay. simple things, like being able to make a portal any time, anywhere, without scrolls... or that all items are identified already (i mean, youre GOING to id everything anyhow, so its stupid to make you carry around scrolls to do it, or have to wait to get back to town)... or the ability to re-work your skill point distribution (which is INCREDIBLY valuable, if you mis-click in diablo, youre just fucked)...

the storyline is better too, presuming you like the whole greek mythology stuff...

it looks like the most common cause of reboots in titan quest are, oddly enough, mouse drivers for the razer brand of mice. you dont have a razer by any chance, do you? it reboots in the same spot every time, right? as soon as the menu tries to display?

Never figured out the reboots. Folks claimed it was everything from mouse drivers to NICs. No one seems to be able to pin it down. Everytime I rebooted, even when I had not attempted to play, the system had a serious error it wanted to report to MS. I removed all files associated with TQ, and the error stopped. Weird.

The good news is that I played LOTS yesterday on the Win2k box. The game IS superior to Diablo 2, like you said. I, also, like not having to futz with arrows.

Well worth the $10, even with the initial trouble. I'll be playing more today. Thanks.

cool! i wouldnt steer you wrong :) titan quest is one of my all-time favorite games. ive got 14 or 15 level 50+ characters... and i still go back and play it periodically....

the one thing i forgot to mention is you want to be sure youre playing using the "immortal throne" shortcut and not the plain titan quest one... otherwise you dont get the expansion content. works just like d2 and d2:LoD did, adds stuff into the main game, as well as an extra "act" at the end...

Oh, good info. I have been using the TQ .exe. I am only lvl 11, so it's no biggie. I'll just consider that toon a 'practice' and start over.

you dont have to start over, you can use that character in TQIT too... the new stuff content isnt until the end... but youll want to play using TQIT anyway because there are new items and stuff to get... and one new class type (which kicks ass)...

Nice, as soon as I fired up IT, it imported any characters from TQ. I resumed play with no problems, right where I left off.

Oh, so *that's* why you enjoyed my Roman/Rescue a goddess from Tartarus campaign: You likes your fantasy EPIC. Well, good... then we need to continue gaming soon, so I can see if the story line is interesting enough to put into a youth fantasy novel format, or if it's really just a game plot without deeper applications.

well, mostly i enjoyed it because it was really GOOD... and crazy fun... no shit, the most entertaining pnp campaign ive ever participated in.
