since the first moon landing, and what do we have to show for it? a shuttle program thats at least 20 years out of date, and an unfinished space station.
that sounds like 40 wasted years to me. we ought to at least have a permanently-manned moonbase by now, and have set foot on mars at least once. its pathetic. i guess until mankind is brought to very edge of extinction, we wont figure out that this whole "all our eggs in one planetary basket" thing is a guarantee for species extermination.
oh well, here's some moonwalk-anniversary-themed music for you:man i love that song.

I'm hoping one of the things Obama can achieve is to reinvigorate the space program. That's one of the few things the federal government could do right. Private industry hasn't done jack, and won't, because it's too expensive and the payoffs are wayyy too far out.
We need a Moon base for construction and launches (leaving Earth is the hard part)... and frankly, to just keep being leaders. I know we have poor and homeless and all that -- but, as Jesus said, we'll always have them. There's always some excuse not to do the really big, really cool thing.
