gaaaaah!! the demo is too short! its too easy! nooooo i need more! more i tell you!
im really glad that they didnt fuck the game up, which i was afraid might happen... the interface is even better than before, and controlling fighters and corvettes at the squadron level is WAY better than trying to crank out 50 fighters and manage them all... i also like that the smaller craft seem sturdier overall, so even though you only have 5 interceptors to a squad, id say theyre about as potent as an X formation of 9-17 in the first one...
HOWEVER... i am really worried about the difficulty... the first homeworld was hard as hell, and thats one of the things i LOVED about it... you had to work hard, and play very well, to succeed... and you had to plan for the future, because your fleet persisted from mission to mission... a moment of recklessness could lead to real trouble a few missions down the road, and so it encouraged you to make the loss of every vessel, down to the smallest fighter, COUNT in the overall scheme of the game... there was no cannon-fodder, no meat for the grinder... it isnt like command and conquer where you can just crank out low-level guys and throw them away as a holding action... the demo, on the other hand, was easy as hell... rescued all 6 transports, no problem... nothing like the first game, where i had to play that "rescue the sleeper modules" mission like 5 times before i managed to save them all...
oh yeah, and the ability to salvage the debris from capship explosions is a nice addition... and did i mention task forces? and and and...
oh god, please, let homeworld 2 show up on the store shelves soon :)
The world according to Tim
Homeworld 2!
