no, not for your BRAIN, literally for your HEAD.

meet the Remington Shortcut...

after seeing several really good reviews for this on a few of the blogs i follow in the space of a few weeks, i decided to try it out. it seemed kind of gimmicky but at only 30 bucks, i figured it was worth the risk. i gotta say, it works GREAT. im super happy with it. ive shaved my own head several times, but for the most part ive let a barber do it because its kind of a pain in the ass to make sure i got everything... and while im sure i would have gotten faster as i did it more often, it still took me a long time (20 minutes or so) to feel like i had done a good job of it. even so, it still irritated the piss out of me to pay between $12 and $15 for a barber to spend three minutes with a pair of clippers on my head.

well, never again. the shortcut works just as advertised, and its FAST. id say no more than 5 minutes total to get my slightly bushy head back to a nice and tight #3 buzz. the cut was nice and even all over, as near as i (and others ive asked) can tell. its got a convenient dial to set the length from a #1 to a #4, plus an additional attachment for a #0/blade cut (ie, bald)... and its rechargable, so no cord to get wrapped around my damn neck.

i started at #4 because you never REALLY know how close itll be from clipper to clipper until you try it, but i was already at right about a #4, so i didnt do much past brush my hair. which is good, it means the settings are fairly close to the same calibration at a stylist.

i figure ill just run it over my head every week or so and be able to maintain the close cut for as long as i want it. although next week, just for grins, i think ill try the balding attachment while i still can before it gets too cold.

the long and (primarily) short of it: if you like your cut high and tight like i do, its highly recommended, and will pay for itself in just a few uses.
