ive taken a good bit of flak in the past over my assertion that the christians in america are every bit as bad as the muslims in the middle east... especially over my contention that, given their way, the christians would turn america into a backwards third-world theocracy like what exists in the middle east at large currently... a place i like to call christianistan.

(i think its relevant to note that afganistan wasnt always a radical islamic stronghold. im always surprised at how many people didnt know that afganistan was at one time a democracy (well, had a democratic legislature, anyway)... women were allowed the same educational and employment opportunities as men, and werent treated like human cattle. the taliban's rise to power following the soviet invasion changed all that. a free, progressive nation undone by regligious nutballs. it can and DOES happen.)

so i figure ill start devoting some space here to supporting my position, and i figure a local group of loonies is as good a place to start as any. the southwestern baptist theological seminary has denied a professor tenure... because she is a woman.

"Van McClain, chairman of Southwestern's board of trustees, told the Dallas Morning News that the seminary has returned to its "traditional, confessional and biblical position" that a woman should not instruct men in theology courses or in biblical languages."

so, women of america, is this the direction youd like things to go? if you support the christian evangelical agenda in america, get ready to say goodbye to equal rights, and hello to being some man's property. i hope you think head scarves are fashionable, because you could be wearing them every time you leave the house, every day, for the rest of your life.

and while im at it... why the hell are these christians still using the old testament to prop up their backwards positions? youve got your own damn book, that whole new-testament-jesus-thing... you know, that jesus guy, the one that said he came to throw out the old laws, the same shit you keep using to justify your treatment of "undesireables" like women and gays. i mean, hello, do you think jesus would be ok with their treatment of this professor?

oh yeah, and another thing. if you want to comment, you might as well create an account and post it. because if you send it in an email, im going to post it anyway. i havent (and wont) post the emails ive received prior to this, because they werent sent with the knowledge that they may be reprinted. anything from this point forward is fair game. if you want bash me over this, youd best have the balls to do it in public.
