Have you ever noticed that some people seem fundamentally incapable of detecting bullshit from another person, no matter how thick it is laid on? in fact, it almost seems that the thicker it is, the less likely they are to see it as such...

in the course of my working life, from a phone support rep at Sprint, to a tech at a PC clone shop, to a programmer in the telecom industry (and now, the travel industry), i have discovered that bullshit remains pretty much the same... the way they polish the turds varies a bit from industry to industry, but it all boils down to the same thing at its core, and there is absolutely no shortage of people lining up to believe it. day after day, i hear salesmen and executives digging deep into that well of lies and serve up a steaming pile of shit on platter to clients and employees alike, and without fail they grab their forks and dig in with a smile (or i guess a "shit-eating grin" is more accurate).

the thing is, 99% of the time, these are people who should know better... or, i used to think so. i now realize that in almost every case, the folks at the top in any given business are generally CLUELESS about the actual business they are supposedly running. (how this comes to be, i dont really know, but i have a few theories ill explain in another entry someday...) so, when the execs trot out the bullshit salespitch that is so absurd it makes me almost want to laugh, well, they just lap it up, because they would rather nod and agree and look like they understand than have to reveal just how fucking ignorant of their own job they really are by asking a question...

hell, most of the time, you dont even need to know anything about anything to know that a pitch is bullshit... these guys are just so afraid of being exposed as undeserving frauds, so convinced of their own inability to do anything past look good in a red tie and their penis-extending sports car, that they begin to question their own judgement on even the most common-sense things...

"you mean, this software will increase my business AND let me fly around the office like peter pan?? wow! where do i sign? no no i dont need any kind of explanation on how this is possible, because im so smart i already see where you are going... after all, im an industry expert! right?"

you know, i had a point when i started this, and got interrupted half way through and now i just cant seem to find it again...

oh well, the moral of the story is: never believe anything anyone in a suit tells you. never believe anything anyone who drives a car that costs more than you make in a year tells you. and certainly never believe anyone who doesnt actually DO anything for a living beyond figuring out ways to turn YOUR labor into cash in HIS pocket.

oh yeah, and if nobody is around and you think you can reasonably get away with it... consider doing something extremely and permanently unkind to anyone who meets any of the aforementioned criteria... theyre just wastes of flesh, shit wrapped in skin, worthless non-producing thieves that leech off of those who actually have any kind of ability and give nothing back... we would all be better off with less of them, and its about time someone did something about it...

and if the unemployment and economic situation doesnt improve soon, i have a feeling people WILL start to do something about it...
